Project Status: Development Project Country: Nepal Project Size: 1.0 MW - 3.0 MW Purpose: Construction Power Project for Balephi "A" and Upper Balephi A projects. Projected Construction: Jan 2011 Projected Commission: May 2012 Project Description: The proposed project, Selang Small Hydroelectric Project (SSHP), is located in northern part of Sindhupalchowk district, which is about 12 km far from the district headquarter, Chautara bazaar and is about 105 km far from Kathmandu. The project site is in Selang Village Development Committee (VDC). The intake of the project has been proposed on right bank of the said stream in Chhiku village. Selangkhola is also a border of two VDCs, Selang in right and Golche in left. The proposed powerhouse location is about 3 km downstream side from the proposed intake at an altitude of 1060. Selangkhola Small Hydroelectric Project is run-of-the-river type and there is no significant impact over the existing environment due to the presence of external structures like diversion, intake, de-sander, forebay and powerhouse since all of these structures consist of small size and volume. Moreover there is no poundage due to the presence of diversion weir and other structures since the weir proposed as trench type. The proposed project site can be reached by half an hour drive from the existing national highway from Chautara. The project location is connected by district road network as observed during the field survey. Two units of 0.5 MW capacity Pelton turbines are to be installed in the powerhouse. The type of turbine has been selected on the basis of head and discharge for this purpose Somursand Chart was used. Pelton Turbine is determined by providing design discharge and net head. Since the optimum plant flow is 0.36 cusec, the rated flow per turbine is 0.18 cusec. The net head on each turbine has been calculated to be 340 meters. The horizontal axis Pelton turbine has a throat diameter of 0.2 meter or it will be decided by the turbine manufacturer later during the fabrication of the machine. The setting of the turbine has been governed by the need to avoid cavitations. The resulting setting of the turbine units is 1.0 meter above the minimum tail water level. Two sets of three phase alternating current, horizontal shaft, and ordinary synchronous generators with salient pole revolving field, self ventilating and re-circulating with air coolers, complete with excitation system, automatic voltage regulators, motor control centre, ancillary equipments, accessories and spare parts for their satisfactory running and efficient operation. The generator will be provided with Exciter and AVR. The stator winding of the generators shall be star-connected and neutral shall be solidly grounded. The insulation materials shall be of class F and the temperature rise shall be limited to 800C. The cooling system and fire protection of the generator will be as suggested by the manufacturer. For this power evacuation schemes a single circuit 11 kV transmission line shall be constructed from the powerhouse to the nearest NEA grid, which is at Dande of Baramchi VDC. The transmission line will be protected at both the ends with over current and ground over current relays. |
