Projected Construction Completion: May 2016

Project Description: Tamor is a major contributor/tributary of Saptakoshi River, originates at high Himal above 6,000 meters altitude from AMSL. The river basin is extended up to 8,586 meter (Kanchanjungha) of altitude, where the upper part is full of snow covered mountains and occupied approximately 600 km2 in area. The major part of the river basin is in lower mountain range. Several small and medium size streams have been feeding to this river, which ultimately increases the reliability of the flow of the river.

The proposed Upper Tamor 'A' Hydropower Project is located in north-west part of Taplejung district, which is about 550 km north-east from Kathmandu. The project site is in Olangchungola Village Development Committee (VDC) of the mentioned district.

The intake of the project is proposed at up-stream side of Tamor-Yangma confluence, few kilometer upstream side of Olangchungola bazaar as marked in the topographical map. The proposed alignment of the headrace is on the left side of Tamor. Likewise the proposed powerhouse location is nearly 5.5 kM downstream side from the proposed intake.

The proposed project is run-of-the river (RoR) type and there is no significant impact over the existing environment due to the presence of external structures like diversion, intake, de-sander, surge-tank and powerhouse since all of these structures will have fairly small size and volume. Moreover there is no poundage due to the presence of diversion weir and other structures since the weir will be constructed free flow type. Study of available maps and information indicates that the installed capacity of proposed power project would be about 90 MW, utilizing the discharge of 15 cu. m. per second and gross head of 720 meter respectively.
